ACTU Media Release - FOI hearing reveals 'smoking gun': PM's secret plan for another wave of IR changes

Tuesday November 20, 2007

A Freedom of Information hearing yesterday (Monday, November 19) has confirmed the existence of secret Howard Government plans to go further on its WorkChoices industrial relations reforms.

Channel Seven TV news last night revealed that a plan for another wave of reforms has been developed by the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

But while the Freedom of Information hearing confirmed that the plans did exist, the Government blocked the bid by the Seven Network for the plans to be made public.

ACTU President Sharan Burrow said:

"This is a smoking gun.

"It is conclusive proof that John Howard and Peter Costello have a secret plan to take WorkChoices further after the election.

"The Liberals plan to push an extra 1.5 million workers onto AWAs, make further cuts to protections from unfair dismissal and to cut awards," says Ms Burrow.
