The Federal Election is coming and time is running out to enrol to vote

Friday August 31, 2007

If you want to have you say you must enrol to vote now
If you want to have you say you must enrol to vote now

Prime Minister John Howard confirmed today (Friday August 31, 2007) that we will be heading to the polls for the Federal Election before the end of the year.

This being the case, all Australians eligible to vote, need to enrol to vote now, to ensure their voice is heard on Election Day.

So, if you have never been enrolled but are over 18 or will turn 18 by Election Day and are eligible to vote, you need to enrol before the Prime Minister names the date.

Once the Election has been called, it will be too late. John Howard has changed the laws, so you no longer have time after the poll is announced, you must be enrolled by the day the Election’s called.

If you are enrolled but have changed your address, you also need to update your enrolment before the Election is called.

It is no exaggeration that Australian working families face their most important decision this year; who they want to lead this country John Howard or Kevin Rudd.

On one hand, there is John Howard and the Liberal/National Coalition that has been in power for 11 years and in the past 12 months launched the most concerted attack on Australian workers’ rights and conditions this country has ever seen.

On the other, there is Kevin Rudd and the ALP who have vowed to restore fairness to the Australian Industrial Relations system.

There is a gulf of difference between what the Howard Government and the Labor Opposition are offering working families and it is time for Australians to decide.

Do we want a society where the individual reign supreme, where the employer has all the power and the weak and the vulnerable are left with no safety net?

Or do we want a society where the democratic power of the collective is respected, where all Australians have the chance to receive a decent education no matter their bank balance, where we all have fundamental rights at work, time to spend with our families and be part of our community.

This year’s Federal Election is crucial to the future prosperity of this country and will be fundamental in establishing the kind of society and work environment we leave for our children and grandchildren.

We can all have our say, but only if we are correctly enrolled to vote and the time to do something about that is NOW!

To enrol simply click on the link below and download a form and return it to the Australian Electoral Commission – you can scan a completed signed form and return it via email.

Or if you are not sure if you are enrolled to vote, or enrolled at your current address, click on the second link below, enter your details and within seconds you will know.

It is quick, it is simple, but it is essential to the future of this country – to its prosperity, to its fairness, to the kind of society in which we all want to live – that everyone should have their chance to vote.

Enrol now and have your say!
