Your Rights at Work campaign gets behind Rock Enrol

Thursday March 01, 2007

Students were encouraged to 'Rock Enrol' as the Your Rights at Work campaign visited the University of Tasmania for the start of the academic year.

With over 300,000 people aged 18-26 not on the electoral roll, and with a Federal Election likely later this year, community groups came together at the University of Tasmania to encourage students to enrol to vote and have fun doing it.

A temporary tattoo parlour helped brand students keen to raise awareness of young people's rights.

The Your Rights at Work team in the Federal marginal seat of Bass, the Electoral Commission, Launceston City Mission, The Corner Youth Health Centre and Amnesty were just some of the organisations at the University keen to help new students understand their rights - be it about voting or while at work.

Students were also visited by ALP candidate for Bass Jodie Campbell, who helped students enrol to vote.

The visit to the University by the Bass Your Rights at Work campaign team was part of a wider national campaign designed to help people enrol to vote before Federal Government changes that come into effect in April make it harder for people to enrol.
