Workers at National Parts from Smithfield in Western Sydney are celebrating a substantial workplace win after an agreement was reached with the company earlier this week.

As industrial action at the warehouse reached its third week the company capitulated to workers’ demands.

The National Union of Workers (NSW Branch) secured a wage increase for average workers at the auto parts distribution site of 22 per cent over 18 months with immediate wage parity and union recognition.

“This win is due to the brave dedication of our members at National Parts,” NUW State Secretary Derrick Belan said.

NUW Organiser Justin Cody said the National Parts workers were very happy with the positive result.

“These workers moved a company who said outright they would not budge,” Cody said. “They have dragged the company to the table and they showed that sometimes fighting is the only option workers have.”
