NSW Branch says knickers to Christmas

Thursday December 13, 2007

The NSW Branch has got into the spirit of Christmas by facilitating a large donation of items to Sydney’s Wayside Chapel in response to their Christmas appeal.

Over 67 cartons of Bonds men’s underwear was given to the charity, which helps homeless people in inner city Sydney.

Wayside Chapel Pastor Graham Long thanked the union for the donation by stating that the items would, “bring some extra comfort” to those who find themselves without a home or family during the festive season.

NSW State Secretary Derrick Belan said that it was important every community organisation assisted those who were doing it tough, especially at Christmas.

“It is a shameful reality that in a country with so much there are so many people who live in poverty and homelessness.

“We have a responsibility, as a group of people who value the ideal of community, to do whatever we can to give what we can to those who are in need,” Belan said.

Donations to the Wayside Chapel’s Christmas gifts appeal can be made by contacting (02) 9358 6577 or by visiting the website www.thewaysidechapel.com
