The Your Rights at Work campaign against the Howard Government's radical IR laws moved to the Queensland town of Caboolture last weekend (Saturday March 31).
Caboolture is located in the Federal seat of Longman, one of 22 marginal seats the union movement is focusing on in this year's Federal Election.
The Longman Your Rights at Work team set up a stall at the Caboolture Multiculural Festival to promote the rights of workers in the local community.
Research released last month by Industrial Relations expert David Peetz showed Queensland workers on the Federal Government's Individual Contracts suffer hourly wages 15 per cent lower than Queensland workers on Collective Agreements.
NUW Queensland State Secretary Mark Furner said research into the Federal Government's IR laws was backed up by many of the visitors to the festival's Your Rights at Work stall.
“Many of the public who approached the Your Rights at Work stall for information indicated they, or someone they knew had suffered as a result of John Howards IR Laws."
Local Your Rights at Work teams will be hosting events in every marginal seat across the country during the course of this year to promote an IR system that respects working people's rights and allows them to spend time with families, friends and the local community.
The camapign has been a massive success so far, and will not end until a new set of IR laws from a new government are introduced.
