NUW Officials and members of the ALP turned out in force at the Pine Rivers Show in Brisbane over the weekend of August 4-6 to educate show-goers about the Howard Government's radical IR changes.

The Your Rights at Work stall - part of the wider campaign by the union movement opposing the Federal IR laws - was situated just metres from Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer Peter Dutton's stand.

And the union stall proved to be very popular, with many concerned community members coming over to ask how Howard's IR laws would affect them.

As part of the successful stall, the NUW handed out bright orange Your Rights at Work bags filled with information on the new Industrial Relations laws.

The NUW also ran a petition over the weekend, which more than 400 people signed. All those who signed agreed that the Federal Government's IR laws would take Australian workplaces back 100 years. Even employers signed the petition.

Queensland State Secretary Mark Furner spoke personally to concerned families about the impact the changes would have on them and their children.

The support the stall received from ordinary people was very encouraging - giving everyone involved in the Your Rights at Work campaign fresh hope that the laws will be defeated at the next Federal Election.

The Pine Rivers stall was the latest in a series of public events the Queensland Branch has attended, with more public education events planned.

The NUW will continue to campaign against the Federal Government's vicious IR laws until they are defeated.
