Events around Queensland - Labour Day 2007

This year there are a huge number of events being held around Queensland for Labour Day 2007.

See below for details regarding what is happening in your area of Queensland.

Barcaldine

Saturday – May 5

Race Day at Barcaldine Race Club first race at 1.30pm

Sunday – May 6

18 hole golf competition at the Barcaldine Golf Club and a bowls carnival to be held at the Barcaldine Bowls Club.  Football will be on at the Barcaldine Showgrounds.

 

Monday – May 7

The Emergency Services display and Labour House will be open at the “Tree of Knowledge” Centre.  The Labour Day Parade will start at 10am followed by a family fun day at the Barcaldine Showgrounds with kids activities, sports competitions, food and drink stalls and entertainment until 4pm.  Please contact Gay Gesch on 4651 1220 for further information.

 

Bowen

A march will be held on Monday May 7 with assembly from 9:30am outside the Post Office in Powell Street.  The march will proceed down Herbert Street into George Street and finish with a sausage sizzle at the QRI Hall.  Please contact Doug Robins on 4786 1151 for further details.

 

Bundaberg

A march will be held on Saturday May 5 with assembly at the top end of Quay Street at Riverside Parklands at 10am.  The march will proceed to the Bundaberg Bowls Club for a Labour Day barbeque for Delegates, Officials and families from 11am.  Please contact the QCU Bundaberg 4132 8400 for further information.

 

Cairns

A march will be held on Monday May7  from Munro Martin Park with assembly at 10am and march to commence at 10:30am.  A picnic at the Park will then be held with food stalls, beer/drinks tent, children’s jumping castle and the annual inter-union tug of war championships.  Please contact either Stuart Traill 0417 741 339 or Kevin O’Sullivan 0417 646 606 for further details.

 

Gladstone

A march will be held on MondayMay 7 from 10am with assembly at the City Theatre Carpark.  This will be followed by a picnic and sports day at Frend Park.  Please contact Craig Giddins 0419 721 0423 for further details.

 

Gold Coast

A march will be held on Sunday May6  leaving from the southern side of Sundale Bridge at 8:30am and travel to Macintosh Island Park, Gold Coast Highway, Surfers Paradise.

 

Ipswich

A march will be held on Saturday May 5, commencing at 10am. Assemble on Ellenborough Street between Roseberry Parade and Darling Street, ACTU President Sharan Burrow will be in attendance.  The march will proceed to Timothy Molony Park.  Please contact Brian Hall on 0427 065 651 for further information.

 Ipswich continued

The Ipswich Labour Day Cup will be held on Monday May 7 at the Bundamba Race Track. Gates open at 10:30am, free entry to all union members.  Please contact Jo-Ann Miller on 3288 3737 or bundamba@parliament.qld.gov.au for further information.

 Mackay

A march will be held on Monday May 7 and will commence at 9:30am, assemble at River Street at 9:15am.  The march will proceed to Queens Park where there will be speeches, live music, food & drink stalls, rides, children’s races and ice-creams & softdrinks for the kids.  Please contact Shane Brunker at QCU Mackay on 4954 6313 or 0407 119 614 for further information.

 Rockhampton

A march will be held on Monday May 7 commencing at 9am from Northside Plaza via Musgrave and Bridge Streets to Stapleton Park.  A fun day will be held in the park with a sausage sizzle, arts and craft stalls, family sports events and entertainment.  Please contact Craig Allen on 4922 5844 or 0419 769 125 for further information.

 Sunshine Coast

A rally and march will be held on Sunday May 6 commencing at 10am in the Kings Beach Amphitheatre, Caloundra.  There will be speeches, entertainment and a sausage sizzle.  Please contact Ray Marx on 0407 168 033 for further information.

 Toowoomba

A march will be held on Saturday May 5 commencing at 11am, assemble at 10:30 behind the Toowoomba City Council Building, cnr Herries & Victoria Streets.  An inter-union bowls challenge and a family fun day will be held from Noon at the Toowoomba City Bowls Club.  Please contact Frank Burke on 0419 672 835 for further information.

 

Townsville

A march will be held on Monday May 7 with assembly from 10:15am at Anzac Park, The Strand.  The march will commence at 10:45am and will then move to Strand Park.  There will be music & entertainment, kids rides, food stalls, beer tent, races, tug-o-war, speeches and presentations.  Please contact Margie Dale at QCU Townsville on 4771 2873 or 0409 596 260 for further information.
