Free Family Information Day for Queensland members

Thursday November 17, 2005

A free Family Day will be held in the Northern Brisbane suburb of Chermside this Sunday to inform members of the Howard Government’s Industrial Relations changes.

The Day will run from 11am to 2pm this Sunday (November 20), at the 7th Brigade Park (near the Kids’ Space) in Murphy Road, Chermside.

The speakers will include Queensland Teachers’ Union General Secretary and Queensland Council of Unions President, John Battams.

A free BBQ and information booth will be set up at the 7th Brigade Park to provide both members and interested community members with plenty of information about what the Howard Government has in store for working families via its ‘WorkChoices’ legislation.

QLD NUW Secretary Mark Furner said it was critical that members were given clear information about what impact the Government’s changes would have.

“These harsh and complex work laws are in front of Parliament as we speak. The NUW believes it is essential that members and non-members alike know how these changes will affect their living standards, and who is responsible for them,” he said.

"I would encourage as many members as possible to come to the 7th Brigade Park in Chermside on Sunday to find out what the Howard Government has in store for them and their children in the coming years.”

The Free Family Day will be held at the 7th Brigade Park (near the Kid’s Space) in Murphy Road, Chermside this Sunday (November 20) from 11am to 2pm.
