South Australian members rally behind Fighting Fund
Monday July 04, 2005
Around 350 NUW members from 13 companies across South Australia have generously agreed to contribute money to the joint NUW / ACTU Fighting Fund over the last couple of weeks.
Close to $7000 has now been raised by members as meetings continue to be held across sites in South Australia as part of the campaign against the Howard Government’s radical industrial changes.
After being informed of the gravity of the Howard Government’s industrial package, over 140 members at Smiths Snack Foods agreed to contribute $20 each to the Fighting Fund. Over a dozen other sites in South Australia agreed to do the same.
Other sites who have agreed to contribute to the cause in the past fortnight include: Avery Denison, Hamilton, Monroe's, National Pharmacies, Woodvale Moulders and OneSteel.
The meetings in South Australia coincide with similar meetings in Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania, as the NUW conducts a national campaign to inform working Australians about what the changes could mean for them and their families.
The vast majority of meetings in the four states have seen members unanimously support the NUW / ACTU Fighting Fund via a financial contribution.
The funds contributed by NUW members have gone towards the ACTU national advertising campaign that kicked off last month. A further round of advertising is scheduled for later this year, as the Howard Government’s changes are passed into law.
A complete list of those South Australian members at companies who have donated money can be found on the Fund Contributors section of the Your Rights At Work campaign page on this website.
