South Australian members can really get behind the 'Your Rights at Work" campaign with several public events in the state in coming months
South Australian members can really get behind the 'Your Rights at Work" campaign with several public events in the state in coming months

The national campaign against the Howard Government’s radical IR agenda continues to gain momentum, with the South Australian Branch of the NUW involved in some major activities over the coming weeks.

The activities are designed to increase public awareness about the proposed changes.

As has been noted so many times during this campaign, once people understand what is being proposed; and the affect it will have on them and their families, they are overwhelmingly opposed to the changes.

The South Australian Branch would like to encourage all of their members to get behind these events.

These events will play a key role in the state’s campaign, and most of them should be a lot of fun as well.

The events are:

Protest –August 27, 9am

John Howard is coming to Adelaide to open the SA Liberal Party Conference at the Festival Theatre.

A group of young people want to protest about work rights under the banner “Defend Your Rights for the future”.

They are asking for support. If you can spare some time please attend.

Protest Port Lincoln – August 29, from midday

Join fellow workers at Town Square to protest about the treatment of the workers on the ship “Destiny Queen”.

There will also be a Public Meeting about your Rights at Work at 7pm, at TAFE College, Tasman Tce, Port Lincoln.

Women Work and Welfare Forum – September 2, Adelaide Town Hall, 128 King William Street, 6–7.30pm.

This is a forum to discuss the changes to work laws and welfare reform and their impact on women.

Special Guest speaker on the night will be Jenny George, the first woman President of the ACTU.

Bring your friends and make a night of it.
