Smorgon’s Workers Steeled for a Dispute
Monday September 30, 2002
Our members at Smorgons Steelmark
(Ottoway and Dry Creek) took part in a
national campaign to secure common pay
and conditions as part of their new
enterprise agreement.
The steel industry has been greatly affected by take-overs and mergers and many smaller sites are being closed down.
Enterprise agreements throughout this industry had several differing conditions; the campaign highlighted these and was designed to improve conditions to the highest common denominator. The campaign included industrial action that contained a 24 hour strike that assisted our members to achieve the national objectives for their enterprise agreement.
We congratulate our members on their collective willingness to support each other and their willingness to take industrial action to achieve national standards.
