NUW members at Wattyl in South Australia returned to work today (Friday June 24) after negotiations with the company finally resolved the impasse over their new EBA.
Workers at Wattyl started 72-hour strike action on Wednesday morning after negotiations with the company over a new EBA broke down earlier in the week.Â
The main sticking was the wages claim.
On Thursday night Wattyl management came back with a new package, extending the original 18-month offer to a three-year deal and increasing the wage rises to 4 per cent in the first year, 4.2 per cent in the second and 4.5 per cent in the third.
The initial wage increase will be retrospective to February 1, 2005, with the other wage increases occurring on the same date in 2006 and 2007.
Members at Wattyl were keen to accept a three-year deal to give them some certainty regarding wage increases moving forward, as well as protecting their conditions in light of the Howard Government’s Industrial Relations reforms set to be introduced to Parliament in the coming weeks.
