Don’t forget to register for International Women’s Day
Friday February 23, 2007
The Victorian Branch’s annual International Women’s Day conference is on again on Thursday March 8, 2007.
Like always there will be plenty of things for NUW female Delegates to see and do, with a great line-up of guest speakers, and inspiring workshops.
This year’s special guest is Shadow Health Minister, and former NUW Official, Nicola Roxon, who will talk on the ALP’s plans for a fairer IR system if elected at the coming Federal Election.
She will be joined by the ACTU’s Cath Bowtell who will talk about the impact the new IR laws have had on working families and what the peak body is doing to try to rectify this.
As well ACTU marginal seat coordinators Cindy O’Connor and Katie Hall will be on hand to give some practical tips on how everyone can get involved in the campaign to get rid of these bad laws.
And as always there will be several NUW Delegates and members to tell their personal stories of how the Howard Government’s radical new laws have impacted them.
It is a packed agenda but one which should inspire all present to join the fight against the Federal Government’s attack in Australian working families.
NUW Victorian State President Julie Warren said International Women’s Day was a must for all female Delegates and Health and Safety Representatives.
“This conference is the one day in the year when all of our female Delegates can come together and discuss their own individual issues and concerns, share ideas and be inspired by a great line-up of guest speakers.
“At this conference we encourage our female members to find their voice and speak out against anything concerning them in their workplaces.
“And we have found over the years that some of the Delegates who have had the chance to speak at International Women’s Day have gone on to become fantastic NUW Officials.
“It is a fantastic day for networking and just simply sharing ideas and solutions. I encourage all female Delegates and Health and Safety Representatives to come along.”
This year’s event is at the Carlton Football Club Social Club, Princes Park, Royal Parade, Parkville.
Registration is from 8.30am with formalities beginning at 9.30am.
Lunch and other light refreshments will be provided. Parking is available.
