Check your forklift licences; deadlines looming
Thursday January 24, 2008
Victorian NUW members who have forklift licences or perform high-risk work should check the date on their licences/certificates of competency as the Victorian Government 2007 licensing regulations – that came into force on the July 1, 2007 – start to take effect as of January 31, 2008.
The new regulations effectively change forklift licences from life-long qualifications to five-year renewable certificates.
As such, over the coming years – with the first batch on January 31, 2008 – current qualifications will expire and holders will need to transfer their old certificates onto the new licensing system.
When your current qualification expires, you will be transferred onto a five-year licence, at the end of that period you will be re-assessed for competency.
To enable your qualification to be renewed you must register with WorkSafe now.
You can do that online at www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/highriskwork or contact NUW Assist on 1300 275 689.
If you are one of those whose licence expires on or between January 31, 2008, and February 28, 2008 please contact the NUW urgently on 1300 275 689.
For more information on when you qualification expires please click on the link below.
It is essential to ensure that your licence remains current to continue driving a forklift or working in high risk areas, so taking a couple of minutes now to register with WorkSafe could save you a lot of problems in the future.
