National Union of Workers

Occupational Health and Safety

Workplace Health and Safety is about preventing work-related injury and disease, and designing an environment that promotes well-being for everyone at work.

Health and Safety laws in Australia provide a framework for the resolution of Health and Safety issues in the workplace.

However, unions like the NUW, see these laws as a minimum standard to be improved upon through negotiation.

NUW Health and Safety Reps play a vital role in keeping their work mates safe on the job.

Under Section 67 and 69 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004), newly elected and exisitng Health and Safety Reps have the right to choose which training they will undertake and who will provide it.

To help OH&S Reps perform their duties, the NUW offers a full range of WorkSafe approved training courses. To see which courses are available and enrol online, just go to the Training section of the NUW website.
