Sakata Dispute, December 2004

In December 2004, NUW members at Sakata Rice Snacks staged a successful 10-day strike as part of their long-running fight to negotiate an EBA with the company.
After years of struggle the NUW was able to achieve that EBA just before Christmas, thanks in no small part to the extraordinary commitment and resolve of our members on the picket line.
During the 10 days they did not allow any goods in or out of the factory, manning the picket line 24 hours a day.
The strike action was a last resort for members at Sakata, who had fought for several years to try to negotiate an EBA with the company.
