It's been a big year for the National Union of Workers.

We've finally prevailed in our fight to see the back of Howard's WorkChoices, and we now have an industrial relations system that gives us a fairer go at the bargaining table. But it’s no good having better laws, without having a Union that can deliver for our members nationally, particularly in uncertain economic times.

In light of this, members have also spoken up for positive change in our Union. An overwhelming majority of 60% of members voted for a strong Union nationally.

The benefits these changes are delivering are:

  • More Organisers on the ground in Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia;
  • More delegates and members to have the opportunity to become Organisers;
  • More resources, training and support for delegates from our Union at the workplace;
  • Access to our national membership service centre, NUW Assist;
  • A stronger and smarter Union that can protect and improve members’ jobs, wages and conditions.

We have new laws, and a new Union. If we continue to stand together in unity we’ll have the strength to win better wages, greater job security and a healthier workplace.
