The Liberal Party just cannot let go of WorkChoices
Within ten minutes of taking over the leadership of the Liberal Party, Tony Abbott firmly put WorkChoices back on the national political agenda when he dishonestly stated: "the phrase WorkChoices is dead."
He then went on to tell a bunch of business executives words to the effect that they should have the right to:
- dismiss workers unfairly
- cut pay and conditions through individual contracts
After the great campaign we all ran in 2007 to see the back of WorkChoices, we thought the Liberal Party would heed the message from the Australian people. We will never stop campaigning to keep and improve our rights at work.
In the lead up to the Federal Election later this year, the Australian union movement's campaigning theme will be:
Don't go back to WorkChoices
I know that all NUW members will join in our fight to keep our RIGHTS AT WORK.
