DB Schenker organise in NSW and QLD

DB Schenker is a global transport and logistics company with sites across Australia.  Queensland organiser Mark Schmidt has visited the Brisbane site three times over the last five weeks to talk to the workers about how they can organise their workplace and improve their working conditions. Approximately 50 full-time, part-time and labour-hire workers make up the workforce in Queensland, but they do not currently have an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement.

Over the course of the last several weeks eight workers have joined the NUW and importantly there are two delegates on site. The company has agreed to pay for one of the delegates to attend Union delegate training in September and is considering paying for the second delegate to also attend training. The NUW welcomes all the new members and delegates.

New South Wales organisers Charlie Morgan and James Nero began visiting DB Schenker a few months ago when, like Queensland, there was no agreement in Sydney. The Union has now begun bargaining with the company for their first EBA.

Hearing of the New South Wales log of claims, more DB Shenker workers in Queensland have approached their delegates and organiser to hold a mass meeting; many now considering joining the NUW especially because they can see what their counterparts in Sydney have been able to achieve in the last few months.

Now delegates in Queensland and New South Wales are communicating and sharing information, and DB Shenker management have indicated that once members have finished negotiating their first EBA in New South Wales, they will look at an agreement with Queensland.

Congratulations to all new members and delegates in Sydney and Brisbane!
