IGA Metcash appeal FWA decision
After nine months in and out of Fair Work Australia, IGA Metcash contests order to give NUW member, Cong Nguyen, his job back
IGA Metcash yesterday appealed the reinstatement and compensation order
made by Fair Work Australia last week –
that would see NUW member, Cong Nguyen,
return to his former job on Monday.
IGA's legal counsel were successful in being granted at stay-order by
Fair Work Australia yesterday which effectively means that Mr. Nguyen
shall now be paid his weekly wage by IGA Metcash to stay at home until
a full-bench appeal is heard and determined.
Mr Nguyen who has been a loyal employee for 23 years has been fighting to return to his job since termination in September last year. Saddened by
yesterday's decision, Mr Nguyen wants to return to his old job. He was
grateful to the NUW for taking up his fight. The full bench appeal
date has been set for the 23 June 2011.
