Long-serving Defence member retires

Member Robert Osborne

Member Robert Osborne, who retired this week, has been with Defence for 38 years (22 years in the army) during which time he worked as a storeman, store supervisor and most recently as a loan pool manager. Robert has seen many changes during his time, including a reduction in size at his site, from 100 people down to seven.

Actively involved in the union, Robert was not only a union member and member of the Tas Branch Sub Committee, but also a delegate and OHS rep. He was involved in both the Workplace Consultative Committee as a rep for Tas and currently sits on the NUW Defence Committee which he found to be beneficial, particularly in connecting delegates around Australia.

“This is a great committee allowing delegates to meet face to face to discuss and problem solve issues within the logistics area of Australia,”  Robert commented.

Retirement plants for Robert include travelling and family bonding, which he is looking forward to. “I plan (or should I say my wife plans) to do some renos on the house.  There will also be some close bonding with the grandchildren and there is still a lot of Australia we want to visit.”

The union, on behalf of our TAS members and our Defence members, thank Rob for his support and contribution and wish him well for the future.
