Members come first after company backs down
Members working at First Duty Free in both Brisbane and Melbourne have had a big win after receiving a revised EBA offer after their recent strike action.
After recent strike action at First Duty Free in both Melbourne and Brisbane, which saw both stores closed during various stop-work actions, members have finally won a deal they deserve. Employees from both Melbourne and Brisbane today endorsed the latest EBA which the company put on the table which offered improved conditions on wage increases, penalty rates and casual loadings.
A show of solidarity and members’ dedication to the cause, at both airports, has seen them win rights they had previously been championing for.
Qld Site Organiser Quan Chuc said "the members today thanked the NUW for assisting them, getting the best offer in six years. During the vote, the meeting room was filled with members enjoying a victory which has been a long time coming."
Victorian site Organiser Cameron Stops noted the bargaining power which members interstate had when they united to achieve outcomes. "This is an example of workers rallying together around the country for better wages and conditions and achieving an excellent result."
