Members take Herron to FWA after sackings
NUW members at Herron-Sigma will tomorrow go to Fair Work Australia to dispute sackings which took place on Monday after they participated in industrial action the previous week.
Members on the Herron picket line
Members at Sigma-Herron will front Fair Work Australia tomorrow morning, alleging their employer has terminated them for fronting up to a company picket line the previous week.
A number of members at Herron returned to work on Monday, after industrial action, only to find their swipe cards had been deactivated and their employment was terminated that day.
Site organiser Duncan Pegg expressed members’ shock regarding their treatment after they returned to work at the beginning of the week.
“All of our members who were made redundant on Monday were on the picket line the previous week. We are concerned that the company has singled out members were who exercising their right to industrial action.”
