Members unite and win bargaining right at CMC Coil Steels.
Members at CMC Coil Steels are on track for their first bargaining agreement after they were awarded a majority support determination from Fair Work Australia.
NUW members at CMC Coil Steels in WA are finally able to bargain for an agreement, after they were awarded a majority support determination from Fair Work Australia.
After the company refused to accept members’ proposal for a log of claims, members put a plan into action by signing petitions across both sites (Welshpool and Hazelmere), giving statements to support the union’s application for a majority support determination, and demonstrating that strength in numbers achieves results.
“Members want a fair wage for what they do. They want a pay rise that will take them closer to what others in the industry receive,” site organiser Alex Falconer said.
The hearing between FWA and the employer took place last Monday, achieving an outcome which favoured members.
“This is an important win for workers at CMC Coil Steels in WA. The company can spend all the money it wants to try and beat us, but the resolve of the workers can't be broken," Alex Falconer explained.
