Qantas lockout terminated by FWA
Fair Work Australia has terminated the proposed lockout. Click here for more details.
Dear Qantas NUW Members
As you will be aware from media reports, Fair Work Australia has terminated the bargaining period between the TWU, ALAEA, AIPA and Qantas. This means that no further industrial action, including the proposed lock out can occur.
Subject to CASA approval Qantas flights will commence later today.
The effect of the decision of FWA to terminate the bargaining period means that over the next 21 days the parties to the dispute are required to meet to try and reach agreement on the terms of new agreements. If this does not occur then FWA has the power to arbitrate the matter.
Members should note that whilst FWA found that the stoppages undertaken by the three Unions involved were having some effect on the airline’s operations it was the decision by Qantas management to lock out its workers and ground the fleet that posed a significant harm to the economy.
As previously advised members should attend to work as normal. Please report any incidents of concern to your delegate or contact the Union on 1300 275 689.
