South Australian NUW members got active on election day in the seat of Wakefield where a large number of NUW workplaces are located and 20% of membership live.
The NUW's lead Organiser in SA, Dave Garland, saw election day as a great way for members to become involved.
"We offered a chance for Delegates to get involved in the political process, learn a bit more about campaigning outside of their own workplace, and be part of a whole movement of people still working hard to keep WorkChoices from re-entering our working lives”
The potential for the NUW to grow even stronger through members keen on becoming involved in other community activist projects is something Dave advocates.
"I’m keen to see us think about what kinds of union programs we can put in place to help interested delegates and members get more politically active and I don’t just mean helping the ALP in elections: participation in local council or community action groups around neighborhood issues or activism within the local branch of their political party."
