Treasured Magazine becomes part of the NUW's History

Simon Crean and Tim Kennedy

A 1981 edition of Store Talk magazine, featuring then ACTU president Bob Hawke and General Secretary of the FSPU Simon Crean, on the cover, has been dusted off, signed and kindly donated to the NUW’s historical display.

"Both Bob and Simon were excited to be reminded of this journal and were keen to emphasise their continuing strong connection to our union.” - Tim Kennedy

Former NUW member and loyal delegate of 26 years, from Eco Lab in Cheltenham, Graham Hassett, had kept the magazine in his locker until his retirement in July and offered the magazine to his Organiser Steve Howie who thought it was an important piece of memorabilia for the NUW to hang onto.

After hearing about Graham's donation, National Union of Workers’ Victorian State Secretary Tim Kennedy thought Simon's recent campaign launch would be the perfect opportunity to get the magazine signed by both Simon and Bob and evoke some early memories of their time in the trade union movement.

“Thanks to Graham not only for his great example of the benefit of unionism for workers in his years on the job, but also for his foresight to hang onto this piece of our history.

Both Bob and Simon were excited to be reminded of this journal and were keen to emphasise their continuing strong connection to our union.”
