FORWARD TOGETHER
Defence negotiations collapse
DEFENCE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT UPDATE
On Wednesday 18 May, following months of negotiations, the Department of Defence advised unions that the 3% offered to workers was NON-NEGOTIABLE, and employees could TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT.
On this basis negotiations were terminated; while at the same time Defence announced its intention to put the proposed new Defence Collective Agreement to the vote of its workforce – not withstanding the opposition of such action by union representatives.
This is same defence philosophy seen in 1999/2000
Defence employees flatly rejected this attempt to destabilize the workforce back then; and we need to send the same message in 2011!
The answer is NO. There is nothing stronger than all Defence employees, union and non-union, sending a clear message to Defence and the Government:
We will not be BOUGHT by substandard, income reducing wage outcomes.
Standing together we defeated Defence in 1999/2000
STANDING TOGETHER NOW WE CAN DO IT AGAIN
