Pfizer EBA Campaign

Historic agreement for Pfizer
After months of negotiations and the threat of industrial action, NUW members at Pfizer pharmaceuticals manufacturing in Perth have made an historic agreement with Pfizer management.
In this agreement Pharmaceutical Operators made the biggest advancements in wages and working conditions in the history of Union negotiations with Pfizer Perth.
For the first time Pharmaceutical Operators have:
- discovered what the base hourly rate is for each operator
- won an increase on those hourly rates of 14.3% over the next three years
- improved job security for casual workers
- won a whole suite of new allowances
- boosted shift penalty rates, and
- obtained longer notice periods for company shutdowns and company-initiated shift changes.
The reason they gained so much in this agreement is simple: for the first time they are truly strong and united.
When it came time to vote on industrial action, Pharmaceutical Operators sent a very clear message that Pfizer had to improve their offer.
When they gave Pfizer notice that they were going to strike for 24 hours, Pfizer had no other option but to improve their offer.
Since Pfizer Pharmaceutical Operators’ historic victory in December last year, workers in other departments at Pfizer have started joining the Union. Disappointingly, Pfizer have tried to put a stop to this by barring Union organisers access to the canteen.
The NUW has already collected over 65 signatures on a petition calling for the reinstatement of union meetings in the canteen. Other actions are also planned.
20th December update
Six months after negotiations commenced, NUW delegates and Pfizer Perth management representatives have reached an in-principle agreement on a new enterprise agreement.
The agreement came just hours before a 24-hour strike was due to commence.
Members at Pfizer have won a three-year deal with pay increases of 4.5% in the first year, 4.8% in the second year and 5% in the third year. The penalty rate applicable to rotating-shift workers has also been substantially increased."
Congratulations to all the Pfizer workers who have joined the union and organised themselves to get to this position of power.
Mass meetings will be held in the New Year to seek endorsement of the in-principle agreement.
16 December 2010 update
NUW members working at Pfizer Perth will walk off the job from Midnight on Friday 17th December in response to management's pay offer. Management has responded by calling a meeting which will take place at 1pm 16 December.
Pfizer Perth workers are up to $150 a week worse off than their interstate pharmaceutical manufacturing counterparts. The offer on the table from Pfizer will do nothing to bridge the pay gap. NUW members at Pfizer are determined to achieve greater pay equality.

Please see below for a comparison of the performance and fees of BT Lifetime Employer (Pfizer’s superannuation fund) and LUCRF (the NUW’s superannuation fund). There’s a big difference! Claiming for LUCRF to be the default superannuation fund in the new agreement is just one of the ways we can improve benefits for Perth Pfizer workers
