Action needed on workplace bullying: survey

Unfortunately, bullying and harassment occurs within the Market and Social Research Industry. Responses to the NUW stress and anxiety survey indicate that bullying and harrassment are the principal sources of unreasonable stress and anxiety.

While bullying and harassment is often rooted within an organisational culture or management style, the NUW believes an Industry-wide approach is essential to combating bullying and harrassment.

The NUW will seek an Industry standard in relation to bullying and harassment that will include:

  • A list of behaviour that is not to be tolerated. For instance, many interviewers have been sworn or yelled at
  • Formal and informal grievance procedures; and 
  • Provisions to ensure all staff, particularly team leaders and supervisors, have a knowledge and understanding of this policy.
