Benjamin: being an undocumented worker

Benjamin: being an undocumented worker

What happens when workers from Malaysia and Indonesia are lured by agents to work in Australia’s horticulture sector on the promise of good work to help support their families, but then end up having their hard-earned money stolen by dodgy contractors who pay them well below the minimum wage?

What happens when workers are then stranded without the work rights they were promised? What’s it like to feel like you live outside society? What happens if you’re sick or injured? NUW members are being exploited and underpaid and feel they have nowhere to access help if they need it. Together we can change this unjust situation. We are calling for an Amnesty so workers can safely come forward and expose exploitation and wage theft. Then we can work together to clean up the industry and hold dodgy contractors and bad employers to account, while enabling employers to provide secure jobs and uphold minimum standards for all workers.
