Kiewa members run mass meeting, respond to MG

8 May 2017

Today's mass meeting at Murray Goulburn's Kiewa site comes after the devastating announcement from management last week that they will close the factory as well as Rochester in Victoria and Edith Creek in Tasmania.

Workers want to fight for their jobs. Workers want to fight to protect their communities and the Dairy industry. The NUW is a big union. We stand with workers in Kiewa, Rochester and Edith Creek to call on government and local communities to join us in a campaign to save good, secure, union jobs in our regions.

Mass meetings will continue this week in Rochester and next week in Edith Creek. To NUW members around the country: speak to your site Delegate or Organiser for letters that you and your workmates can sign to support Murray Goulburn members - or download here

Local Federal Minister Cathy McGowan joined workers at the meeting and said she would speak for Kiewa workers in Canberra this week, saying that food manufacturing needed to be supported in regional Australia. She has also extended the offer to take a deputation of workers from Murray Gouburn with her to Canberra at her next visit.
